If a picture paints a thousand words

This blog is a place for me to work on my photography. My goal is to submit a new picture every day and to get better as the moments go by. I take all pictures with my digital camera. I worked for years with a 35 mm minolta, and this is a learning experience for me. I am afraid that I got lazy and allowed the camera to choose most of the settings for me. This is my journey of learning how to shoot a camera that is not in a program mode. It is harder than I ever imagined. That makes this challenge both a new experience and a joy for me.

Sunday Creative Time Worn - Day 7

Time Worn and Interesting - Day 7

Today's selection of photography is due to the prompt for Sunday Creative over at one of my favorite photography posts, Madeline Bea's.  She gives us a challenge every week and this week was called,  Time Worn.
In my small town, I found a house that had a new and improved way of using old farm implements.  I must admit that I was rather impressed.

Don't ask what they all are, because in all honesty, I haven't a clue.  I photographed them because I loved the color and textures that I observed there.

I also loved this log puller (I really don't know what else to call it).  I love the red color and the texture of the old wood.

Actually, the thing that caught my eye the first time, was this old wagon.  I loved the presentation of it.

If you look closely, you won't just see the wagon, but you will see the bare bones of an old saddle.

Standing Tall - Day 6

Standing Tall and Proud

The day was overcast and dreary.  Just the kind of day that makes finding a good picture a little harder than normal.  Then I saw this tall and majestic tree.  Standing all alone on a hill.  Looking out over the world that was waiting at his feet.  So simple, so serene, so peaceful, so proud.

Kitty - Day 5

Savannah Kitty - Day 5

We have a crazy kitty!  Her name is Savannah, but we call her Kitty for short.  It is the only name she will answer to.  She likes to take naps, and she hates to be bothered.  As you can see, she is giving me the kitty version of a scowl!  Usually, she runs as soon as she sees a camera.  She is kind of shy that way.  Today, she actually let me snap a few annoying pictures.

Of course, she wasn't going to look at me while I took them!

OK, maybe just one green-eyed stare!

Visitors - Day 4

Moose and Yoda - Day 4

This weekend, we had visitors.  My son brought his Neapolitan Mastiff named (appropriately) Moose.

We have a toy Yorkie named, Yoda (as in Toy Yoda, my husbands favorite!)

Moose and Yoda like to play.  Moose slobbers all over Yoda all day long.

After he is finished, Yoda's hair is spiked all over his body.

Oh yeah, he has been truly "Moosed".  This means it is time for a bath before he is allowed to sleep in the bottom of our bed.  Life is always a little more interesting when you have company.

Field Of Flowers - Day Three

Sunflowers in a Meadow
day 3
This is what I see every time I make the drive between my home and Snowflake Arizona.  The sunflowers grow wild all along the edge of the road and are amazing to see.  I wish I had a way of conveying how wonderful it is to look upon acres and acres of these during my journey.

I took all of these to try and give you an example of the many flowers that are in bloom.  It is the part I love most about fall up here in my mountain home.

Now I wanted to change the lighting and see what I could end up with.  These last two pictures are my favorites.

The Bird House

Day 2- Vacant House

This is a currently vacant birdhouse in our front yard.  I love the way that the shadows fall on it.  It looks weathered and worn, but every spring we get a new nest of baby birds inside.

Red Sky at Night

Day 1, Sunset over the Arizona Mountains

I took this picture looking out my front door at the sunset.   I did not add to or take away from the natural color of the glorious sky.  I thought it looked amazing, but did not know how it would photograph.  I did crop the picture to better accent the sky in the back ground.
