Time Marches on - Ten years ago - Day 330

The Rodeo-Chediski fire burned much of my mountain home 10 years ago.  It was the biggest fire ever in the state until this year.  We were traveling the back roads and came to this burned out area from ten years ago.  You can see the devastation of the forest, but you can also see hope for the future rising up from the ashes.  I am constantly amazed at the power of time.  This area has a beauty all it's own.

For the life of me, I don't know what these sweet little flowers are.  They grow wild all over the floor of the woods in which we live.  I love them.  They are small, bright and beautiful.

A Unique Plant - Day 324

The misnamed century plant doesn't really live for 100 years.  It typically lives only 10 to 30 years. It has a green base that looks similar to an aloe plant.  The leaves can be up to six feet long and they have spines on the end that is very sharp and can pierce to the bone.  When it flowers, the spike with big yellow flowers may reach up to 26 ft in height. Its name likely derives from its nature of flowering only once at the end of its long life. The plant dies after flowering, but produces suckers or shoots from the base, which continue its growth as new plants.

If everyone would look for that uniqueness 

then we would have a very colorful world.
