If a picture paints a thousand words

This blog is a place for me to work on my photography. My goal is to submit a new picture every day and to get better as the moments go by. I take all pictures with my digital camera. I worked for years with a 35 mm minolta, and this is a learning experience for me. I am afraid that I got lazy and allowed the camera to choose most of the settings for me. This is my journey of learning how to shoot a camera that is not in a program mode. It is harder than I ever imagined. That makes this challenge both a new experience and a joy for me.

She Does Windows! - Day 262

My sweet little Grand-daughter, discovered the joys of washing the windows.  She had a wonderful time!  And did a pretty good job too!

the tough do what they do,

Grammy, Look at me! - Day 261

My sweet grand-daughter dressed up for her Papa's birthday.  She picked out her clothes just for him and brought a little extra joy into our lives because of her love and thoughtfulness.  This little sweetheart is going to be quite a caring and compassionate young lady.

OK, and maybe just a little bit of a drama queen!!

If a child is given love, he becomes loving ...
If he's helped when he needs help, he becomes helpful.
And if he has been truly valued at home ...
he grows up secure enough to look beyond himself to the welfare of others.

Sadie in Sepia- Wordless Wednesday - Day 259

Grand-daughters are amazing!

Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see.  ~Neil Postman, The Disappearance of Childhood (introduction), 1982

Mystery???- Day 258

We have a mystery around this house.  Papa made his very famous chocolate chocolate chip cookies.  They came out of the oven and on to the table.  Before they even cooled, there were some missing.  What happened?

Oh, I think I see a clue!

Yep, chocolate lips!  A dead giveaway.  I think she loved them!!

While we try to teach our children all about life,
Our children teach us what life is all about.

Chicken Run - Day 257

We have twenty chickens.  My husband needed a way for them to eat the long grass in the yard.  So, he built them a chicken run.  It is on wheels and can move from one part of the yard to another.  He puts them where the grass can use a little work!  ;-)  Don't worry, they love it and we only let them stay in it for a couple of hours before putting them back in the big chicken coop.  They have water and a nesting box to lay their eggs.

"My father asserted that there was no better place to bring up a family than in a rural environment....There's something about getting up at 5a.m., feeding the stock and chickens, and milking a couple of cows before breakfast that gives you a lifelong respect for the price of butter and eggs."  William E Vaughan

Teeny Tiny Breakfast - Day 256

This chicken egg, was the actual size of a quail egg.  It was nearly too small to eat.  That did not stop the girls from giving it a try though.

it's what you use that makes a difference".

Macro Friday - Dandelion - Day 254

Today I am linking up with Blogging From Bolivia for Macro Friday.  I couldn't help loving the dandelions growing wild all over the mountain.  It brings back the memories of childhood and the wishes that I made while blowing them all across the world that I knew.  Wishes might not always come true, but memories are what brings a smile to my lips and joy to my heart.

At the Creek - Day 253

I love the way that the creek changes as the lighting changes.  I love the way that you can get an entirely different feeling just by waiting a few moments.  There is something so wonderfully peaceful about running water.  I can get lost in time just by sitting and listening and relaxing.

Nature is man's teacher.  She unfolds her treasures to his search, unseals his eye, illumes his mind, and purifies his heart; an influence breathes from all the sights and sounds of her existence.  ~Alfred Billings Street

Moss on a Rock - Day 252

The mystery of language was revealed to me.  I knew then that
‘W-A-T-E-R’ meant the wonderful cool something that was flowing over my hand.  That living word awakened my soul, gave it light, joy, set it free.
Helen Keller, The Story of My Life

I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.  ~e.e. cummings

Stand Like A Rock - Day 250

"...whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them,
I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew,
and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock." Matt 7:24-25

On the Way Home

The view from the top of the Rim!  The world is spread out in all it's wonder.

Forest of Mesquite - Day 248

I was driving back home from a business trip, and saw a sea of yellow.  I had to stop and take a few pictures.    My allergies are still recovering, but I love the way they turned out!

Field of Flowers - Day 247

Nothing reminds me of spring quite like a field of flowers.

Mountain Meadow - Day 244

On the way home, I found a mountain meadow.  I pulled off the road and soaked in the peace.

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

Mother's Day Bouquet - Day 243

Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away.  ~Dinah Craik
