If a picture paints a thousand words

This blog is a place for me to work on my photography. My goal is to submit a new picture every day and to get better as the moments go by. I take all pictures with my digital camera. I worked for years with a 35 mm minolta, and this is a learning experience for me. I am afraid that I got lazy and allowed the camera to choose most of the settings for me. This is my journey of learning how to shoot a camera that is not in a program mode. It is harder than I ever imagined. That makes this challenge both a new experience and a joy for me.

Reflections in the Grand Piano - Day 29

At choir, I noticed how the hands of the accompanist are mirrored in the black wood of the grand piano.  I loved the way it looked and wanted to capture it for my blog without any embellishments.  Here are the pictures, just as I took them.  I really want to experiment a little more.  I love the first one with no additional lighting, but the fingers blurred because of the slowness of the shutter speed to compensate for the absence of light.

In this middle picture, you can see the reflection better, but I did not like the flash on the hands.
There are no windows in the choir room, only the floresent lights.

This is, by far, my favorite.  I still need to practice with the lighting.
I love the reflection in this piece.  You can even see the brand name on the piano.
It is a beautiful instrument, hence my focus.

If you want to see more weekend reflections challenges, go HERE

  1. These are wonderful - very poignant somehow. There is a Weekend Reflections Challenge - never a subject - just whatever you have. Come over to my blog and check my right hand column. You should submit one of these photos.

  2. Thank you so much! I was in choir and watching his hands and hoped that they would be just what I wanted. I will have to enter next week because I missed this before it closed. Thank you for everything Margaret.

  3. The last shot is nicely detailed and I think it "reflects" what you were looking for. I like your courage in showing all three photos and know that you are learning, as are we all!

    Bon weekend,

  4. It's always worth persevering. That's a lovely subject for a photo. I wonder what you were singing?

  5. The last one is just stunning... Nice catch indeed, and thanks for this original sharing !
