If a picture paints a thousand words

This blog is a place for me to work on my photography. My goal is to submit a new picture every day and to get better as the moments go by. I take all pictures with my digital camera. I worked for years with a 35 mm minolta, and this is a learning experience for me. I am afraid that I got lazy and allowed the camera to choose most of the settings for me. This is my journey of learning how to shoot a camera that is not in a program mode. It is harder than I ever imagined. That makes this challenge both a new experience and a joy for me.

Pickles For Pleasure - Day 32

Canning Pickles - Day 32
I inherited a few cucumbers this weekend.  They were perfect for the bread and butter pickles that my mouth has been watering for.  So, when the weekend finally came around, we chopped cucumbers, onions, bell peppers and garlic.  I put them to soak in a salt brine for several hours.

Once they were done, I rinsed them off and made the vinegar, spices, and sugar solution that they are covered in.  We poured them into the jars and gave them a nice hot water bath!

Oh my gosh, did they ever turn out tasty!!  I will never buy another pickle again.  These are simply amazing!

  4. Takes my breath away... The colors and all our work. I like your imagery for my sons poem. And also, I reorganized the challenge into one blog... Could you relink the photo of the peachesnto the new challenge? These pickles would-be fabulous as well. More than one entry is allowed. Especially at this beginning stage. 11 children... I always laugh when people say I have a big family. I know quite a few with larger. :)

  6. Thank you everyone! It is truly a labor of love. We enjoy the crispy, tastiness of homemade. That is what makes it all worth while.
